Public Art in St Kevin's
The Summer of 2010 saw the installation of Sun Bounce with Solar Seats - an outdoor artwork comprising two main elements exploring a solar theme.
The commission was awarded to Paul Gregg under the Percent for Art Scheme which allocates 1% of the cost of a new public building for the provision of a work of art.
A stainless steel structure, based on the arch of a sextant which makes 'reference to the arc of the sun's path through the sky' is accompanied by a seating area for students, making use of a variety of materials which react to the heat of the sun in different ways.
Paul also visited the school to give a lecture to transition and fifth year students on his own work as well as the piece for St. Kevin's. Students found Paul to be an engaging speaker and gained a valuable insight into contemporary art practice in Ireland.
